The council member for Tourism of Calp, Jan van Parijs, encouraged camping entrepreneurs in Calp to take part in the touristic promotion lead by the department in a meeting this morning. For the Town Council, camping and caravan tourism, which is increasingly popular in the town, has become one of the priorities in which the touristic promotion is focusing. For this reason, van Parijs has pointed out the need to “stay together to defend and promote the destination” and the importance of the private initiative in promoting the product in international fairs, what would contribute to the arrival of new tourists.
During the last few years, the town council has noticed a growing interest of the international market in the camping and caravan sector in the town. In fact, at the Feria de Viajes y Camping CMT, which recently took place in Stuttgart and which is the most important in the sector in Europe, they have noticed a raising demand for information from the visitors towards the camping and caravan offer in Calp.
The council member for Tourism passed on the entrepreneurs in the sector the “excellent response” obtained at this touristic fair, which had 220,000 visitors, and invited them to become incorporated in order to reinforce the position held by this emerging sector in Calp. The town currently has two camping sites as well as two areas for caravans, and two more campsites are expected to open their doors during these coming weeks, which would make Calp have more than 200 vacancies for this type of accommodation.
The meeting also served as a first contact with the sector and to get to know its worries and concerns. In that sense, the council member promised to help them and to work with them to make it a “stronger and more competitive” sector.
